Description

Sir Frank Mears & Partners, in collaboration with Stirling Burgh Architect, conceived 1938, realised post-war, circa 1955. 8-bay, 3-storey, outer left and right bay with attic. Harled with ashlar at ground, margins and dormerheads.

N (BROAD STREET) ELEVATION: entrance with stepped architrave at ground to right of centre with windows in each bay to left and 2 bays to right, windows with narrow lights flanking in gabled bay to outer right. Regular fenestration above. Gabletted dormerheads in 3 bays to outer left with stone trefoil finial, round-headed dormerheads to left and right of centre, gabletted dormerhead to penultimate bay, gablehead to outer right. Outer left bay breaking eaves as tower with gabled returns.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: harled. 3 doors, irregular bays.

Timber tilt and turn windows, gablehead stacks to outer left bay, graded grey slates, ridge stacks to left and right of centre and to right.

Statement of Interest

Part of a wider municipal redevelopment of Baker, Bow and St John Streets, in modern traditional Scottish idiom, Stirling?s equivalent to earlier schemes in burghs such as Edinburgh.
