1887. Queen Victoria Golden Jubilee commemorative cast-iron lamp at junction of High Street, Cross Street and Victoria Street. Polygonal plinth and ogee-topped shaft with relief portrait bust of Queen Victoria and dates '1837' and '1887' to W face, decorative cornice; narrow 2nd stage with crested lantern and neck brackets.
The Town Cross was originally sited here, the last being removed in 1753 when a Town Council Minute demanded that "the stones thereof be applied for building the pillars of the flesh market, only the long stone and a few steps to be kept and made up in place of the old Cross".
