Description

Probably mid 19th century. Group of 3 cast-iron mile posts on A823, Dunfermline to Rumbling Bridge road. 2-stage, black and white posts each with waisted columnar plinth giving way to finialled, battered rectangular directional faces with name and distance in miles:

Two further mile posts in this Dunfermline to Rumbling Bridge section of the A823 are listed separately in Dunfermline Parish (see LB45591). They are contemporary and similar in form to the mile post that once stood at Cadder Marshalling Yard, Cadder in East Dunbartonshire (now relocated to the foyer of Haymarket Station in Edinburgh (2020

. They are of particular interest for their survival and the continuous run on a short stretch of road, 8.5 miles apart.
