Description

Late 19th century incorporating earlier fabric. 2-storey, 3-bay farmhouse (now cottages) with long single storey wings in symmetrical group. Squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: near-symmetrical. 2-storey bays to centre with window to each floor in advanced gabled centre bay, bipartite window to right and window to left at ground, further windows above breaking eaves in gabled dormerheads. Single storey bays to right and left with gabled door to centre and bipartite windows in flanking bays; slightly advanced gabled bay with window to outer right and further advanced gable with window to outer left. 4- and 8-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with cans and plain bargeboarding. BOUNDARY WALLS: low rubble boundary walls.

Statement of Interest

Property of Glamis Castle Maintenance Trust. The core of this former farmhouse dates from the late eighteenth century and may have been known as 'Thornton'. Mains of Glamis Steading is listed separately.
