Description

Earlier to mid 19th century with minor alterations; extended mid-20th century. Terrace comprising pair of double-fronted single storey farmworkers? cottages. Symmetrical design. Coursed sandstone rubble with stugged and droved arrises and dressings and harled rear/W extensions. Coped gables.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: reversed plans; slightly off-centre entrance with boarded timber door and 3-light rectangular fanlight to each cottage; 2-light window with timber mullion to outer bay (formerly narrower single-light windows which have been widened); single light window to inner bay. Long and short surrounds to openings.

W (REAR) ELEVATION: single storey, flat roofed extensions to both cottages; each with one main window on this side (2 windows to outer return).

N AND S ELEVATION: blind gable ends.

8 and 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof to main body of terrace; flat ashphalted roofs to rear/W extensions. 2 coped stugged ashlar gablehead stacks; one to rear/W pitch; single harled stack to each extension; round cans. Cast iron rainwater goods.

INTERIORS: not inspected (1997).

Statement of Interest

B-group with Nos 25 and 27-31 Winton Loan as intact group of earlier/mid 19th century farm estate workers' cottages. According to occupant of No 21 (1997) the rear extensions were added in 1947.
