Description

Mid 19th century with Tudor-detailed gabled facade by Alexander Tod, late 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay gabled farmhouse. Squared and snecked red sandstone with coursed rubble to sides and rear, and contrasting stugged ashlar quoins and margins. Base and eaves courses. Corniced and pilastered doorcase with blocking course; stop-chamfered arrises and stone mullions to principal elevation.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: panelled timber door with plate glass fanlight to centre at ground, and bipartite window to 1st floor; slightly advanced gabled outer bays, that to right with canted tripartite window and blocking course at ground, bipartite window above and narrow round-headed light in finialled gablehead, that to left with tripartite window at ground, 1st floor and gablehead as above.

SE ELEVATION: broad gabled bay to left of centre with windows off centre left and to outer right at ground, and to outer right and left at 1st floor; 2 regularly fenestrated recessed bays to outer right.

NE ELEVATION: M-gable; ground floor with boarded timber door to left and small adjacent window to right, further window to centre bay; 1st floor with windows to centre bay and to outer right and left.

NW ELEVATION: asymmetrical elevation with variety of elements including broad gabled bay to right of centre and projecting single storey piended wing to left.

4-pane and plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with cans and gablet ashlar coped skews with moulded skewputts.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998. 2 timber staircases and working shutters.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: coped rubble boundary walls and gatepiers.
