Description

Circa 1820. 2-storey, 2-bay house with shop at ground, part of terrace of 4, painted lined render.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: later 19th century shopfront at ground, 5 part with symmetrical architraved margins, central doorway blocked, rectangular fanlight, flanking windows converted into doorways, flanking outer large windows, plate glass, 2 small windows at 1st floor widely spaced, plain margins, additional doorway to right at ground, rectangular fanlight.

W ELEVATION: adjoining 29 High Street.

E ELEVATION: adjoining 9 John Street.

Timber sash and case windows at 1st floor. Grey slate roof.

INTERIOR: shop at ground, 1st floor not seen 1997.

Statement of Interest

Part of the 3 to 21 (Odd Nos) John Street B Group. John Street was opened in 1818 and this terrace on the N side is probably an intact survivor of the original scheme.
