Description

H S Gamley and John Kinross, 1920, then H S Gamley and G W Browne, 1924, with extension. William Lamb, 1947. War memorial. Bronze, lifesize, winged figure of Peace standing upon globe and holding olive branch in right hand. Large white granite square section channelled pedestal, staged with moulded base. Bronze panels upon each side giving roll of honour and that on S side bearing inscription "To the Glory of God and in sacred memory of those belonging to the Burgh of Montrose who gave their lives in a great cause 1914 - 1919". 1947, pedestal on a podium of 3 steps with wings to E and W each with 2 panels bearing roll of honour for 1939-45 war.

One of 3 pieces of public 'sculpture' on Mid Links, the others being a monument to Provost Scott and a monument and drinking fountain.
