Description

1929. 10-span road viaduct of curved plan and sloping downwards to E; supported on pairs of plain piers joined by beams at apex. Reinforced concrete. Roadway cantilevered out slightly on both sides. Balustraded parapet of incised lozenge shapes punctuated by and terminating in slightly tapering piers with recessed panels and pyramid caps. 3rd span from E and 5th span from W cross-braced on outer/north face (that to east dated 1929 at centre of cross) and with single diagonal brace beneath roadway on E side. Long parapetted abutment terminates in piers at E end. Parapet terminates in piers (that to north dated 1929) beyond final span at W end; short splayed coped abutments built into embankment below.

Statement of Interest

Possibly the only extensive road viaduct on a curved plan and of post and beam construction in Scotland.
