Later 19th century, with later alterations. 2-storey and attic, 8-bay terrace with Scottish Baronial details, with shops at ground. Polished sandstone ashlar. Base course; cornice and blocking course at 1st floor. Shop fronts with hoodmoulds. Chamfered and moulded doorpieces; stop-chamfered arrises.
NW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 3-bay shop front centred at ground comprising round-arched doorpiece with modern glazed timber door at centre, flanked by 2-pane windows; round-arched doorpiece to left of centre, modern door and blind fanlight with tooled sunburst pattern; segmental-arched vehicular pend opening to right of centre, with blind timber fanlight with sunburst pattern; 2-bay shop front to outer left, modern door with shallow plate glass rectangular fanlight, to left, 2-pane plate glass window to right; 2-bay shop front to outer right, comprising round-arched doorpiece with former 2-leaf, 6-panel timber door and plate glass semicircular fanlight to right, bipartite window to left. Bipartite window centred at 1st floor, flanked by round-arched windows; gable-crowstepped oriel window breaking eaves in penultimate bay from left, surmounted by pyramidal finial, including small light centred in gablehead; version of same in penultimate bay from right; bipartite windows in bays to outer left and right.
SW ELEVATION: coursed rubble gable, adjoined to terraced neighbour.
SE (REAR) ELEVATION: not seen, 1999.
NE ELEVATION: adjoined to terraced neighbour.
INTERIORS: not seen, 1999.
Predominantly plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slate M-roof, with lead ridges. 3 evenly-arranged lancet-headed slate-hung dormers, with decorative finials. Tooled ashlar ridge and gablehead stacks, rendered and lined gablehead stacks; corniced and coped, with octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Coped skews
15-23 High Street is of interest for its Scottish Baronial detailing and its survival in a much altered street.
