Mid 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay asymmetrical-plan gabled villa. Sandstone rubble. Base course; painted strip quoins; blocked surrounds to window openings; curvilinear timber bargeboards; 1st floor windows to outer bays break eaves to form gableheads.

NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central advanced gabled bay; square-headed entrance; timber boarded door; bipartite window aligned above at 1st floor; single window at ground floor to re-entrant angle to left. Single windows at ground floor to recessed bay to left. Advanced bipartite window at ground to recessed bay to right; single window aligned above at 1st floor.

SW AND SE ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.

NE ELEVATION: gabled; flue advanced through ground and 1st floors breaking eaves; harled addition to left.

8- and 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; wallhead stack to side; coped stack to rear; circular and polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: square-plan gatepiers to left form both pedestrian and vehicular entrance. Coped rubble wall encloses site.

Statement of Interest

Marked on Ordnance Survey map, 1858 as Midton Cottage. Notable for its distinctive detailing, especially the curvilinear timber barge boards and blocked surrounds to the window openings.
