Description

Probably 1862-64. Single storey and attic asymmetrical, lodge at entrance gate to hospital (now demolished). Snecked and stugged ashlar with polished ashlar dressings at canted bay and raised quoin angles and base courses, moulded eaves cornice. Segmentally arched, mullioned windows with chamfered arrises and plate glass sashes. Bracketted skewputts, gablet skews, grey slates, corniced ashlar stacks with decorative cans. FRONT (E) ELEVATION: L-plan frontage segmentally headed doorway, door with plain fanlight, bipartite window to right. Finialled gable to left with piended, canted bay at ground floor, bipartite window to attic.

Statement of Interest

The main hospital was situated to the NE and was built 1862-70 by F T Pilkington, comprising 2 separate blocks. The hospital was built for the mentally handicapped on the estate of Sir Michael Bruce. The Lodge has been converted to office use and now lies in the Central Park, Larbert, a Business Park.
