Description

Late 19th century. Single storey, 3-bay symmetrical, rectangular-plan cottage Coursers and ashlar quoins and margins. Blind arcade effect created by decorative ashlar carving at wallhead between openings

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: stone step and square headed door to centre, carved and sculpted segmental panel above door with prominent mask and flanking foliate designs; Bipartite stone-mullioned windows; moulded cornice above; 'VINE COTTAGE' carved above blind panel to far right.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: squared random rubble; fenestrated.

E (SIDE) ELEVATION: squared random rubble.

W (SIDE) ELEVATION: squared random rubble.

Plate glass modern windows. Graded grey slate roof, sandstone coped gable end stacks and skews; square based, white clay pots.

INTERIOR: Not seen 2000.

Statement of Interest

The unusual quality of the carved decoration on the cottage suggests that its first occupant was a stone mason.
