Description

Later 19th century. Single storey, 4-bay, rectangular plan, improved cottage, originally 3-bay. Harled whinstone and slate rubble. Irregular fenestration. Overhanging eaves with barge boarding.

NW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: asymmetrical, extended to left, varied window size, modern timber door with glazed astragals in bay to right of centre (centre of original cottage).

SE (REAR) ELEVATION: regular fenestration, modern

advanced gabled bay to right with gable end stack, windows to returns and large picture window to gable end.

SW (SIDE) ELEVATION: harled gable end.

NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: harled gable end.

Timber, fixed small-pane and hopper windows. Chimney stack to SW gable. Felt tiles to front, large Spanish slates to rear, lead flashing.

INTERIOR: not seen 2001.

Forming part of the SE side of the main square on Easdale and next to the museum. One of the less common, and originally larger, free standing cottages on Easdale, suggesting possible occupancy by quarry superintendent. For further information see separate listing for 1 Easdale Island.

Formerly listed as number 12, list address amended July 2004 to include 12a.
