Mid 19th century. 3-storey, 3-bay classical tenement with shops below. Coursed sandstone ashlar. Architraved windows; eaves cornice.
E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: modern shop front to ground floor; 3 single windows at 1st floor; 3 single windows above at 2nd floor; giant angle pilasters.
Modern glazing to ground floor; timber sash and case windows to 1st and 2nd floors: single pane lower sashes and 6-pane upper sashes. Grey slate roof; straight skews; large coped stack at gablehead.
INTERIOR: not seen 2001.
King Street was opened in 1804 as part of the urban improvements begun by the Earl of Glencairn in 1765. The buildings along King Street were predominantly businesses and clubs rather than residential properties. This building is one of the older properties on King Street and retains the classical look the street would have had. In the 1970s, a lot of the street was demolished for new retail developments.
