Description

Possibly T Duncan Rhind, circa 1900. 2-storey, 3-bay finely-detailed villa with swept roof. Whitewashed harl with contrasting red sandstone ashlar dressings. Conical-roofed, battered, bowed bays. Keystones; broad stone mullions.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Steps up to centre bay at ground with canted porch (each face pedimented) part-glazed timber door and multi-pane flanking lights; keystoned Diocletian window above with bracketted semicircular cill and semicircular-pediment style eaves. Flanking finialled bowed bays each with wide tripartite to each floor on battered base.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: ground floor centre bay with piended, swept roof porch with 3 lights and dividing turned timber pillars on battered harled base, further light and decoratively-astragalled part-glazed panelled timber door on return to right; small round-headed window with moulded cill to right and single window immediately to left of centre. 2 windows to left at 1st floor.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: variety of elements to elevation with garage at ground, including Venetian stair window and lower stepped roof service wing to left.

S ELEVATION: 2 windows to right at each floor of broad bay to left, lower slightly set-back wing to right with 3 windows to each floor and piended roof over outer windows.

Bowed 15-pane glazing pattern to upper sashes over plate glass to W, small-pane over plate glass glazing patterns elsewhere, all in timber sash and case windows. Leaded multi-pane glazing to N porch, Diocletian and Venetian windows. Red tiles; terracotta ridge tiles and finials. Tall coped battered stacks with cans. Deeply overhanging eaves with moulded ironwork braces and decorative bargeboarding. Decorative cast-iron downpipes and rainwater hoppers.

INTERIOR: decorative plasterwork cornicing; architraved doors, deep skirting boards and parquet floors. Carved timber fireplace and panelling to principal ground floor room. Fine timber staircase.

BOUNDARY WALLS: low saddleback-coped harled boundary walls with decorative 2-leaf ironwork gate.
