Earlier to mid 19th century, extended 20th century. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay, rectangular-plan public house with single storey wing to rear. Harled with painted margins and stone cills. Base course.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: originally symmetrical. Centre bay at ground with corniced, heavy pilastered doorpiece, deep-set panelled timber door and 3-part fanlight, single window in bay to left and single storey piend-roofed extension to right; regular fenestration close to eaves at 1st floor and polygonal-roofed canted dormer windows over outer bays with small traditional rooflight at centre.
W ELEVATION: windows to outer right and left at each floor, and timber sign worded 'Marfield' flanked by small deep-set glazed oculi in gablehead. Small flat-roofed extension at outer left.
N (REAR) ELEVATION: ground floor with piend-roofed projection and small bipartite window at centre, later? forestair with ironwork railings to right leading to 1st floor door in bay to right of centre, stair window to centre and 2 small windows to left.
Largely 12-pane glazing pattern with lying-panes to dormer windows and plate glass glazing to ground left at S, ground at W, small windows and bipartite at N, all in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Coped and harled stepped stacks with full-complement of polygonal cans.
The house and land at 'Marfield, Westfield' was owned by the trustees of Lieutenant-Colonel John W Wedderburn, and in 1900 was occupied by Mrs Margaret Ann Wedderburn.
