History

C17 timber-framed house, later divided into 2. The front was remodelled in the C19, with late C20 alterations to openings. In same range as 41 to L and 47-49 to R.

Exterior

43 & 45 form a group.

Irregular 2-storey 3-window range; rendered under a slate roof, with quoins, the stacks missing. Panelled door to centre, leading to 1st floor accommodation. Late C20 shop-fronts to ground floor, small-pane top-hung wooden windows to upper storey.

43 has shop-front with central half-glazed boarded door flanked by plain-glazed windows over modern brickwork. The openings are articulated by moulded narrow wooden columns, possibly earlier, supporting a plain cornice. Two windows to upper storey.

Interior

Interior of shop has ceiling with medium-chamfered cross-beam with cut stops and chamfered joists with run-out stops. Corner fireplace to SE with slightly cambered timber lintel.

Reasons for Listing

Listed, notwithstanding late C20 alterations to openings, for retention of C17 timber-framing and internal detail. Group value with surrounding listed buildings in Clwyd Street.
