Early C19 with a mid C20 shop front, otherwise unaltered.
Rendered and painted front with slate roof largely not visible from the street. Four storeys, one window bay wide, all tripartite sash windows with 6 over 6 panes, except 3 over 6 on the top floor. Plain C20 shopfront. Parapet with small cornice, plain stack to right.
Rear elevation has a three storey gabled wing with sash windows, its height demonstrating how it was built in the castle ditch.
Interior not inspected at resurvey (August 2004).
Included for its special interest as a pre-1840 historic building, which has retained its character, in the Monmouth town centre.
