History

Ovolo mouldings suggest early-to-mid C17 date; restored about 1970.

Exterior

Three-storey timber-framed building with overhangs jettied out on each upper floor. facing road, a large timber-framed gable, close-studded with carved wood bargeboard and finial; window strip of seven lights (arranged 2-3-2) with two mullions. First floor is rendered with brackets to overhang above, and with two 12-pane sash windows wide with wooden architraves. Modern shop front on ground floor.

Reasons for Listing

Graded II* as important large-scale timber-framed building, a survivor from Brecon's timber-framed period. Group value with adjacent listed buildings on both sides of Ship Street.
