The timber-framing exposed in the side passage, and in the rear wing of the property suggests an early C17 date for this building. The frontage onto High Street is also timber framed, but was refronted in brick in the early C19.
Painted brick with slate roof to High Street elevation; box-framing exposed in through passage to left hand side, and in rear wing. High Street elevation is 3 storeyed, a 2-window range with entrance ( a 6-panelled door) to right of centre. Inserted small shop window to the left, and 4-pane sash window to the right; passage entry to the far left. Continuous canopy over ground floor; 4-pane sash windows on upper storeys, the first floor windows with cambered brick heads. Square panelled framing exposed in side passage, and in rear wing, with thinner timbering in its later extension.
Rear wing said to retain splat baluster staircase.
Listed for its early origins - a significant example of a timber-framed town-house, which is part of a group of early buildings in this part of the High Street. The C19 frontage also contributes to a group of similar date, the rebuilding testimony to the prosperity of the town at this period.
