History

Mid to late C19 croglofft cottage. Ty Newydd does not appear on either the Tithe Map and Schedule of the parish, 1842, or in the Census returns of 1841. While this is not conclusive the style of the cottage does suggest a later date of construction. Built on Bodednyfed estate land.

Exterior

Single storey vernacular croglofft cottage with wing to R (SE) and brick built lean-to at far R end. Built of local rubble masonry, limewashed. Slate roof with tiled ridge and coping; rendered rectangular gable stacks with capping. The cottage is a 2 window range with central doorway, windows are 4-pane horned sashes with slate sills and stone lintels; similarly detailed window to SE wing. There is a single small loft light to the front of the L (NW) gable return. There are no openings to the rear of the range. The lean-to addition has a door offset to the L (NW) and casement windows along the SE wall.

Interior

Interior not inspected at the time of the survey.

Reasons for Listing

Listed as well-preserved croglofft cottage, retaining much of its original character as a small vernacular building.
