History

A stone cross set up in 1822 to commemorate the building of Pont yr Henfaes by the Carmarthen to Lampeter Turnpike Trust, which was rebuilt in 1832 (and has subsequently been much repaired and altered).

Exterior

A freestone cross with tapering shaft. The shaft is inscribed: ''''This bridge was built by subscription by the parishes of Llanbither and Llanllwny and the Carm[arthen] to Lampeter Trust, was certified by the bridge surveyor for this county and passed as a county bridge Mich[aelmas] Quarter Sessions 1822''''. Below is a further inscription: ''''Rebuilt 1832 by Thomas Jones Mason by order of the bridge surveyor of the county''''. The cross piece has a central raised lozenge, and on the L side ''''Carmarthen XV miles'''', and on the R side ''''Lampeter VII miles''''.
