Nos 1 and 2 Flood Cottages

Pair of semi-detached cottages. 1842. Plastered cob, welsh slate roof with axial
octagonal brick stacks. 2-storey, 4-window. Half-glazed C20 doors to left and right,
with two 2-light and two 3-light casements. First floor has two 3-light and two
2-light casements. Returns are windowless, gables have plain bargeboards. Rear has
two 2-light casements and C20 flat-roofed extension to ground floor. A large cast-iron
plaque, on wall to centre of front first floor, commemorates the building of the
cottages in 1842, following the Great Flood of 1841. Other cottages of same design
are in Orcheston (q.v.) and Shrewton; the latter not included due to alteration.
