TQ 74 NW MARDEN HUNTON ROAD (west side)

1/99 Barn about 3 metres north- west of Murzie Farmhouse GV II

Barn. C17, with later C17 or C18 addition and alterations. Timber framed, weatherboarded, with plain tile roof. 5 timber-framed bays; C17 section of 3 timber-framed bays, with 2 bays added to left in later C17 or C18. Steeply-pitched hipped roof, with gablet to left. Weatherboarded porch with double doors and with hipped roof jettied to front, to third timber-framed bay from right. Short lean-tos to right and left of porch. Interior: C17 section has chamfered gunstock-jowled posts, arch-braced tie-beam, and clasped-purlin roof with diminishing principal rafters, windbraces, and vertical queen struts to collars. Tension braces and stave lath and straw daub infilling to right and central bays and to porch. Central full- height post to right gable end, jowled towards interior of barn. Front wall of left bay of C17 section removed and post adjusted to permit addition of slightly later porch. Roof to two left bays similar to rest but without windbraces and with smaller-scantling timber.
