2.
Substantial early C16 house with a later addition, unified by a facade of diamond
tiling with brick below, which conceals the timber frame. 2 storeys, 4 wide bays.
Fairly high pitched tiled roof with old compound stack. Leaded casements of different
periods. Garden front shows 3 gabled dormers resting on eaves and a projecting
south wing. 2 modern wood porches and a small stone lean-to.
Interior of No 1 (the solar end) shows a deeply coved and roll moulded dais beam
with bench fixing holes in posts below. Hall ceiling beam is morticed in, suggesting
that the hall was always floored. However the chimney looks like an insertion,
so there may have been a smoke bay. Access to roof above the 2 inglenooks not
possible, but there is side-purlin construction at dais end.
