Almshouse. Circa 1912 by Sir Ernest Newton. Red brick with rusticated quoins. Moulded
wooden eaves cornice to hipped, plain tiled roof. Two ridge stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays.
Casement fenestration. Central panelled door flanked by 2 narrow casements and with
projecting hood over. Semi-circular arched door, flat to either side over casements.
Whiteley village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley stores for thrifty old
folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan designed by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
