Description

BEDFIELD LONG GREEN
TM 26 NW
2/34 Barn immediately west of
- Bedfield Lodge

GV II

Barn. Late C16. Timber framed, mainly clad in tarred weatherboarding; south
gable end has corrugated iron cladding. Roof of corrugated asbestos sheeting.
Interior. Intact 4-bay frame, the cart entrance in the 2nd bay from the
south. Most of the wall braces are reverse-curved; down braces each side of
the cart entrance. 3 bays had small diamond-mullioned openings just below the
wallplate, one with intact mullions; these were probably for ventilation as
there is no evidence for an original upper floor, although at the north end
the frame is mostly concealed. Original braces from tie beams to wallposts,
one pair with struts. Queen-post roof with a ridge piece.
