Old Manor House, now farmhouse. Late C15-early C16, and early
C19. Chalkstone with timber framed upper floor and brick wing.
Tiled roof. Two storeys, 6 bays with l-bay 2-storey jettied wing
on north, and 2-bay service wing on south. Late C18 wing at
south-west end. Medieval porch to cross passage now within hall,
drawing room at east end, dining room to west adjoining service
wing. Limestone moulded north door to passage, bracket-moulded
door to south porch, the inner door now removed and refixed at
Vasterne (c.f. Wootton Bassett C.P.). One 2-light hollow moulded
original window, the other windows of oak, C20 from restoration by
H. Breakspear, c1960. Upper floor framing 2 panels high with
heavy tension braces and restored with herringbone brick noggings.
Stack at east end and external stack to dining room. South wing
has brick plat band and 6-panelled door, and a canted C19 bay.
Interior Hall has fine timber panelled screen to dining room, which
also has a large moulded stone fireplace and moulded ceiling beams.
Similar fireplace in bedroom over but with different mouldings.
Internal timbering on jowled posts and with angle braces. Oak
stair with winding treads in separate enclosure attached to east
side of south porch, the upper part of which was rebuilt in later
C18. Good roof of alternating arched brace and tie beam trusses
carrying two purlins and windbraces, the eastern trusses smoke
blackened.
