House. First quarter of C16, and later. Built by a draper from Ipswich. Timber
framed, encased in brick, the rear gable wall a brick replacement. Plaintile
roofs. 2 storeys, 2½ cells of a presumably 3 cell original building. Front
gable wall. Ground floor of c1700 mixed bond brickwork; the first floor and the
return walls of later brickwork. 3-course brick band to front gable wall at
first floor level. Boarded door under C20 porch. Two first floor casements
under soldier arches, that to left a single 2 x 3 pane light, that to right of 2
similar lights. Right hand return. 5 similar ground floor casements of 2
lights, beneath brick labels, the heads at different heights, the second from
left probably a later insertion the 4th bay apparently in a blocked doorway.
Four first floor 2 x 3 paned horizontal sliding sashes and casements beneath
soldier arches. External stack to rear gable. C20 additions to left return.
Interior. Apparently 3½ or four uneven bays. Front cell has transverse beam
with cavetto, roll and cavetto mouldings, the joists cavetto moulded with run out
stops. Rear room, formerly divided in two, has partly single cavetto moulded
joists, the end bay being plain. Rear stack is of early mixed bricks, reset.
Slightly cranked arch brace to front at first floor. The remaining braces are
removed. Roof replaced.
