Numbers 30-34 King’s Arms Street are early C19 in date. They are two storeys high and three bays wide and partly covered in render. The pantiled roof is half-hipped to the north and has projecting eaves.

Number 30 has a projecting late-C20 rectangular bay window at the ground-floor level. On the first-floor level is a late-C20 uPVC window. A brick pilaster with an anchor plate separates it from 32.

Number 32 has a late-C20 uPVC windows on both floors, and a recessed doorway.

Number 34 has a wooden shop window on the ground-floor level, three large panes with arched surrounds and three small top-lights, alongside two doors, all beneath a projecting cornice. At first floor is a two-over-two wooden sash window with horns, flush to the wall. A rendered pilaster separates 34 from 1 Park Lane.

Numbers 20 to 26 (even) and Numbers 30 to 34 (even) King’s Arms Street form a group with Number 2 Park Lane.

History

North Walsham is a medieval market town that grew wealthy from the trade of wool and cloth. The town was largely rebuilt following a fire in 1600 but remained a significant market centre into the Industrial Revolution.

Numbers 30-34 (even) of King’s Arms Street are part of a residential house constructed in the early C19, alongside the separately listed house at 2 Park Lane. They appear on the 1842 tithe map of North Walsham, as part of a north-south range fronting onto King’s Arms Street.

The range continued to be represented as a single property until the 1969 Ordnance Survey, when it was shown as having been split into 30, 32 and 34 King’s Arms Street, and 2 Park Lane.
