ROTHBURY HIGH STREET NU 0501 (North side) 25/297 Highfield and adjacent cottage to east II

Pair of houses, late C18 with some C19 alterations. Horizontally-tooled stone with ashlar door surround and cornices; blue slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 + 2 bays. Left part has left-of-centre part-glazed 6-panel door in added C19 surround with pilasters, cornice and pitched blacking course; 4-pane sash windows, the sills of those on ground floor lowered in C19. Steeply-pitched roof; coped right gable, stepped-and-banded end stacks. Slightly later right part has similar door and C19 cornice in left bay, and 4-pane sashes in unaltered openings. Stepped-and-banded right end stack. Rendered right return shows lst-floor 4-pane sash.
