House, now a school. Early C18 with external remodelling of c.1810. Original
house built by James Zouch. Rendered with hipped slate roofs and rendered stacks.
Half H shape plan, 7 bays to front, centre 3 recessed. 2 storeys with mezzanine;
mixed fenestration of first floor casements, glazing bar sash windows to the
ground floor; angle bay window to ground floor right under lead pent roof.
Double glazed doors to centre in surround of fluted Doric half columns, behind
a colonnade of 4 Ionic columns across the centre of the front.
Garden front: 7 bays, centre 3 projecting in domed bow. Single storey curved
colonnade with glazed pent roof around the centre bays. Single storey circular
porch in front of arched doors in set back bay to the left, the column capitals
now missing.
Interior: C18 staircase with twisted balusters and wall pointing attributed to
Verrio - now largely obscured by varnish. Further ceiling painting based on
Verrio design to ground floor room.
