Kings Barn, Old Main Road, Bulcote

The C18 date for the building, in the 1986 listing, would have been based on an examination of the externally visible architectural features. The brickwork, for example, would have been compared to that of other houses along the river, with dates in their gables, and identifiable as coming from the same sized moulds from kilns at the same brickyard. Since the 1986 listing, casement windows have been changed to sideways sliding sash windows. From the different coloured bricks and pointing, a serious crack, in the second bay, from roof to ground floor, has been repaired. In the third bay, the ground floor window opening appears to be a restoration. (Photo Oct 2015).
