GV II*

Bridge over river Yare, 1520 and 1780, ashlar limestone. Two 4-centred
arches separated by pointed abutment to upstream and downstream sides.
Parapets slightly splayed with terminal square piers having pyramidal caps.
Upper soffits in stone dressed brick, lower soffits in stone. The bridge
was widened 1780 by c.0.7m on either side; C18 arches c.0.25m wider all round
with brick soffits. The previous bridge was destroyed by floods November
1519. The southern bank of the river Yare is now the boundary of the City
of Norwich. The bridge is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, Norfolk 205.
