9/4 The Grove
II
House, mid C19. Gault brick with hipped slate roof. Two storeys, L-shaped.
Symmetrical facade of five bays : sashes with glazing bars and rubbed brick
arches. Central doorway with stone open-pedimented surround; reeded pilasters
with medallions in frieze. Panelled reveal to doorway, 6-panelled 2-leaf
door. Semicircular fanlight with fine decorative glazing bars. Modillion
eaves cornice. Two chimney stacks symmetrically-placed behind ridge line.
Lower gabled rear wing with plate glass sashes with stone cambered lintols
over openings. Two 4-panelled entrance doors, one in small hipped
projection in angle.
