GV II

Terrace retaining wall, gate piers, gates and steps. Early C18. Red brick
with red sandstone coping. T-plan; approximately 51 metres long and 2 metres
high, returning at north-east end. Flight of eleven grey sandstone steps
on axis of south-east door of house with Cl9 cast iron balustrade; pair
of square brick piers in line with end walls of house with stone caps,
each consisting of moulded cornice and large globe finial; pair of
barrel-vaulted brick chambers beneath terrace flanking steps, both with
stone hingeblocks (no doors at time of survey-July 1985), that to north-east
with segmental-headed entrance and arched recess in rear wall; wall returning
to south-east at north-east end, ramped down to gateway with wrought-iron
gate and square brick pier with chamfered coping; returning to north-west
with flight of 10 brick steps up to pair of wrought-iron gates and square
brick piers, each with stone caps consisting of moulded cornices and large
