1/49 Milestone at NGR ST 5256 2116

Milestone. C19. Ham stone pillar, cast iron plaque. Pillar about 450 mm
wide x 250 mm thick x 500 mm high, triangular top. Plaque 360 mm wide x
420 mm deep; with smouldered segmental top and double ogee curve base,
and reads: '/ILCHESTER on curve)/1/YEOVIL/4". This road was maintained
by the Ilchester Trust and turpiked in 1753. (Somerset Roads, SIAS,
Bentley and Murless, 1985).
