GV II

House, now divided in two. C16 with later alterations. Red sandstone random
rubble masonry, slate roof with coped gable to left, having brick stack, hipped
to right, original large stack on rear elevation. 2 storey with gabled 3 storey
porch, 3 bays, sashes with glazing bars and tripartite on ground floor in
slightly raised mortar surrounds of early C19, segmental headed door with
keystone and pilasters, also early C19. Right return elevation, similar
fenestration with glazed porch and late C18 fanlight. This wing contains mid C17
plaster ceiling, cut at the edges, showing Venus and Cupid in the triple oval
surround of roses and fleur de lys with the motto "Sine Cerero et Bacchus friget
Venus" and geometic bands of shallow moulded decoration; 2 fireplaces with
moulded jambs and wooden moulded lintels in this wing; main block has chamfered
beams, plank and stud partition with 2 centred arched doorway, and fine 4 centre
arched door inside.
