Swithland slate headstone with fine engraving. A relief carved panel shows a lady beside a funerary monument. Her left hand holds a bible above an urn. Her left hand is helt to her brow. To Katharine, wife of George Johnson and daughter of Thomas Seagrave and Katharine Sutton. She d. 10th Sept 1795 age 23. -Afflictions sore long time I bore/ Physicians were in vain/ Till Christ the chief gave me relief/ And cured me of my Pain-. The C18 Afflictions Sore epitaph is associated with victims of cancer, alas. (Photo Apr 2009).
