On the wall is a slate monument to Mr Lewis Powell Williams, surgeon d. 9th Jan 1771 age 40. Carved relief in the left spandrel: A skull on a tomb with -O letum ubi stimulus- (O death where is thy sting). A leech, an arrow and a lancet. In the right spandrel, a blood letting cup and a lens. A cross and a flaming heart above a book with -Letum victoriose est absorptum- (Death is absorbed victoriously). -He was the first that introduced into Practice Inocculation without Preparation, in this Kingdom-. A graffito offers Thomas ?Green 1664 instead. (Photo Aug 2008).
