5/96 The Gardener's
Cottage

G.V. II

Cottage. C16 with C19 and C20 alterations. Oak timber framed,
close studding, with coursed limestone rubble plinth and under
building and clad in cyclopean rusticated render. Thatched roof
having single red brick axial and gable stacks. Originally lobby
entry plan. Single storey plus attics, 3 bay front having
central 3 light casements, flanked by 2 light similar windows,
timber lintels. The rear elevation has C20 fenestration, blocked
original door and 3 narrow 2 light dormers with thatched
eyebrows. Interior. Retains chamfered beam with run out stops.
Fireplace has deeply moulded C16 bressumer over inglenook. Some
reset C17 panelling under the windows.
