Commanding officer's house to island garrison. Late C18, extended c1830s. Slatestone rubble to ground floor, the W wing with granite quoins, the E wing with limestone quoins and plinth; rendered 1st floor to both parts; dry slate roofs with coped gable ends; rendered axial stack. L-shaped plan. Right-hand (W) wing which projects at rear is the original phase and the left-hand wing was added c1830s; the original wing was given a 1st floor at about the same time. Ground level higher at rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; asymmetrical 3:3-window N front, the 3 right-hand windows to wide gable of original wing; 1st-floor centre window blind. All 12-pane sashes on stone sills. Doorway at centre of each part with boarded doors and rectangular overlights. Small louvred opening to front gable, similar opening to rear gable. Rear elevation approached from higher ground to central 1st-floor doorway to gabled porch and there are flanking 12-pane sashes. To right are low 1st-floor windows and there is an outshut in the angle. INTERIOR: not inspected. (Mayflower Centre Trust: Drake's Island).
