The Groves

GV II

Walled gardens. Mid C18 for Sir William Lynch. Plum coloured brick, with
irregular buttressing and coping. Average height of about 8 feet, in 2
courts, each about 100 by 200 feet square. Two gate piers on south wall,
of plum brick with red brick dressings, about 10 feet high with moulded
stone cornice caps. Segmental headed doorway with parapet and poetical
inscription over. At south west end of gardens a C17 stable block, of 1
storey in irregular red brick, with double span roof. Stalls and mangers
survive inside. A rebuilt C17 coachhouse at extreme south-west corner, in
process of conversion to house at time of survey, and not of listable
quality.
