Monkton Cottage

Hall house, former cottage row, now cottage pair. Circa 1500
with C18 and C20 alterations. Timber framed, part clad in
painted brick with plain tile roof. 2 storeys on plinth; hipped
roof with gablets and 2 C20 sloping dormers to right. Left
end stack, centre left ridge stack and rear stack to right.
6 framed bays, with C20 catslide outshot to left. Early C18
left end bay, timber framed with ground floor of painted brick.
Original hall house of 4 framed bays with screens passage,
now blocked and with stack inserted. Large panelled framing
with tension braces, the right end bay probably originally
end-jettied, now underbuilt with painted brick. Irregular
fenestration of 6 windows, sash and casements. Three C20
plank and panelled doors, in left end bay, bay second from
left, and bay second from right.
