C1820-30, early pair of semi-detached Calthorpe Estate Villas. 2 storeys
stucco faced. Each of 3 bays with central doorway and flanking former coach
houses. Some later alterations to No 28. Plinth and first floor sill course
carried across the block. Hipped slate roof with shallow flat eaves, central
stucco chimney stack. Revealed glazing bar sashes intact to No 27, plate
glass to No 28. The ground floor windows are set in shallow camber arched
panels carried down to plinth, one in No 28 replaced by C1870 rectangular
bay window with scallop slated pent roof. Round headed doorways with slender
fluted Tuscan columns in antis supporting entablature below fanlight of inverted
fan pattern, moulded arches. No 27 has slightly recessed screen wall with
side entrance connecting the former coach house which is faced with a blind
segmental arched panel. No 28 has similar screen wall and coach house doors
heightened by one storey as substantial wing C1900 with oriel window above
archway.
