SO 72 NE PAUNTLEY -

4/207 Mill, about 150m east-south-east
of Pauntley Court

GV II

Mill and barn; probably mid.C18. Well-squared, coursed stone to
gable facing house, coursed, rougher stone to right return, random
rubble to left: multi-roll Bridgewater tile roof. Seven-bay,
partly lofted. Gable towards house: plinth, wide, boarded door
part way up wall, cambered head, stone voussoirs, projecting
keystone. Tall latin-cross air vents each side: cast-iron fire
back built into gable above, dated 1610. Crow-stepped gable,
projecting copings to each step. Right return, 2 slit air-vents,
one above other, on left: wide cambered-head opening, arch about
half height of wall, brick jambs, rebate for doors, stone hinge
blocks, brick-on-end arch. To right a slit air vent, wide door to
loft over. On right further doorway as first, and 2 slit air
vents, one each level. At right end brick arch over opening for
leat.
Internally, loft to right-hand half only: some framing for mill
machinery survives. Trusses slight king post, 1 pair purlins,
square ridge. Built as eyecatcher for house.
