GV
II
2 adjoining blocks of houses. Late C18. Grey/yellow brick with
a low plastered plinth and old red tile roofs (N block hipped at
N end). 2-storeys with 1-window on each floor to each house and
the door remote from the fireplace and chimney stack. 3-light
wooden casement windows under segmental arches on both floors.
Flat door hoods on shaped brackets. No 14 at the lower end of
the slope contains almshouses founded in 1794 for 4-widows. It
is now 2 dwellings with a common entrance door and projects a
little in advance of the N (uphill) block. The lower windows of
No 14 are 2-light small paned cast iron casements. 4-panel flush
beaded door with flat hood on shaped brackets with guttae at the
springing. Nos 15 - 18 are 2 handed pairs of houses with large
shared chimneys. They are probably slightly later in date than
No 14, and are included for group value.
