Coaching inn, now an hotel. C18 extending in C19. Plum brick
with stucco dressings and steep old red tile hipped roofs (gable
at N end of front). 2-storeys with 5 + 1 windows along front
facing W. Low plinth with continuous band linking 1st floor
window sills. Segmental arched stucco heads to upper windows and
moulded projecting lintols to ground floor with shutters.
Recessed sash windows with 6/6 panes. Door central to 5-windows
part on left, with 2 column Tuscan porch with flat top. Blocked
window over door covered by signboard. 1-storey canted bay
window with small paned sashes, on S end. Slightly taller 2-
storeys hipped roof rear block at SE in yellow brick, dentilled
eaves courses and segmental arched sash windows. Feathers Inn on
the site in 1617, said to have stabling for 100 houses in early
C19 (Branch Johnson (1970) 170).
