Late C17 or early C18 5-bay orangery. Red brick with stone dressings and stone
plinth. Bays defined by flat pilasters with moulded stone bases and capitals,
paired at outer corners and one and a half at sides of centrepiece. These support
entablature with triglyphs in frieze above pilasters, moulded and dentilled brick
cornice and stone blocking course. Large windows with modern casements. Projecting
centre section of multicoloured stock brick with red brick, square angle pilasters
rising to stone Corinthian capitals above roof level of side sections. These
support entablatures with moulded architrave and trophies in frieze. Very rich
cornices with dentils, egg and dart mouldings and scrolled modillions with paterae
between. Similarly enriched open pediment above, broken back in centre. At
1st floor level under pediment a round arched niche with moulded brick architrave
and gauged brick half dome with shell shape at back. Niche, in recess, rests
on carved stone cornice of ground floor. Round arched entrance has red brick
pilasters, carved stone impost blocks with short outer bands, moulded brick architrave
and keystone with mask. This supports flat red brick panel, curved to fill spandrels.
Later glazed door and radial fanlight.
2 short pieces of red brick wall abutting on the Northern corners of orangery
at either side. North face of orangery blank.
